The Loss of MeMaster Class

The Loss of Me is a six-session live online master class, built on The Grief Holding Method™, for adults grieving the loss of who they used to be. It runs 2 hours a week for 6 weeks (12 live hours) with a cohort of 8–15 participants.

The heart of the class

Not every grief has a funeral. Sometimes the loss is the self: the woman who disappeared into caregiving, the identity that ended with a divorce or a diagnosis, the career self left behind at retirement, the carefree person who existed before a trauma. Because nobody died, this grief is rarely named, and the griever often hears only "Be grateful" or "You'll get back to normal."

This master class names that loss, honors it, and guides participants from grief for the person they were toward a living relationship with the person they are becoming.

Who it serves

Adults (18+) navigating a change that altered their sense of self, such as:

  • Divorce, separation, or the end of a long relationship
  • Illness, injury, chronic pain, or disability
  • Caregiving, becoming a parent, or the empty nest
  • Job loss, retirement, or a career ending
  • Relocation, faith transition, or leaving a community
  • Death of a loved one that also ended a role (spouse, daughter, caregiver)
  • Aging, burnout, or simply "not recognizing myself anymore"

What this class is, and is not

This is an educational, heart-centered experience in emotional literacy, reflection, and self-expression. It is not therapy, counseling, or crisis care, and the facilitator does not diagnose or treat. Participants in active crisis, or in the first weeks after an acute trauma, are referred to appropriate professional support instead.

Guiding principles

  • Losing parts of yourself is real grief, and it deserves to be grieved.
  • Every person's loss of self is unique; no loss is compared or ranked.
  • Emotions are meant to be felt, expressed, and heard.
  • The self that was lost still holds wisdom, and it can be honored rather than erased.
  • We move from silence to voice, from holding to release, from grief to grace.

Participant outcomes

By the end of the master class, participants will be able to:

  • Name the specific parts of themselves they have lost and the changes that took them.
  • Recognize the grief misunderstandings and self-critical messages that kept that grief silent.
  • Identify the avoidance and numbing behaviors they use, and notice grief in the body, mind, and heart.
  • Map their emotional pathway and see where the self was lost, protected, and preserved.
  • Express unspoken truths through Courage Statements™ and the four healing statements (Apology, Self-Forgiveness, Acknowledgment, Loving-Kindness).
  • Write a Heart Letter of Completion™ to the self they lost.
  • Set a Beacon of Hope intention and create a keepsake for the self they are reclaiming.
